Shadows & Shutters

  • 12850 91st St #1207 Largo, FL 33773 United States (map)

Step out of the dungeon and into the shadows behind the lens.

Shadows & Shutters is our monthly, non-play photography night at Deviance: a space to experiment, collaborate, and create striking images together. This is a Deviance members-only event and strictly non-play: we are here for art, consent, and community.

WHAT TO EXPECT
This night is all about:

  • Taking photos and/or having your photo taken

  • Networking with other kinky, creative humans

  • Learning, experimenting, and playing with light, angles, and mood (the photography kind, not the flogger kind)

No pressure, no performance, no need to "be good enough." Just bring your curiosity, your camera (or phone), and your weird little gremlin ideas.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Short version: if you are curious, you belong here.

  • Experienced photographers

  • Hobbyists with a camera or phone

  • Folks who want to model (clothed or in dungeon-appropriate attire)

  • People who just like being around the art and want to learn or watch
All experience levels are welcome, including none at all. You do not have to already know what you are doing. This is a community-driven space where we build skills together.

HOW IT WORKS

  • No guaranteed pairings. There is no promise you will work with any specific photographer or model. Who you collaborate with depends on who shows up and what everyone feels good about doing.

  • Community-led connections. You can:

    • Model for those who ask and who you say yes to

    • Take photos of willing, consenting participants

    • Trade roles throughout the night

    • Or just hang back, observe, and soak up knowledge

Our host, @november6th, will be available throughout the evening for questions, feedback, and simple demos within their skill set. They are a hobby photographer, not a formal instructor, so expect real-world tips, not a classroom lecture.

You can learn:

  • Basic lighting tricks

  • Simple posing and framing ideas

  • How to communicate clearly between model and photographer

  • How to build shots that feel powerful, sexy, soft, dramatic, or anything in between

THEME NIGHTS AND SPECIAL SETUPS
We will be introducing theme nights when possible, and we want your ideas.
Themes might include:

  • Specific lighting setups (colored lights, silhouettes, high contrast, etc.)

  • Props or set pieces

  • Style or aesthetic nights (glam, goth, latex, cozy, etc.)

  • Mini skill-share moments or demonstrations

If there is a theme you are dying to shoot or model in, bring your suggestions. This is a shared playground.

SOLO SHOOTS ARE WELCOME
Collaboration is encouraged, not required.

If you just want to:

  • Come in

  • Use the space

  • Work on your own project or personal content

you are absolutely welcome to do so. You are under no obligation to model for others, be photographed by others, or join group activities. No one should be pressuring anyone into collaboration. "No, thank you" is always a complete sentence.

CONSENT, SAFETY, AND DUNGEON RULES

All usual Deviance dungeon rules apply. That means:

  • Consent is mandatory.

    • You may only photograph people who have clearly agreed to be in your shot.

    • If it is not yours (body, toy, gear, or scene), do not photograph it without explicit permission. Partial, blurred, or "it is just in the background" still counts. Ask first.

  • Boundaries are respected.

    • If someone does not want to be in photos at all, do not capture them, even accidentally. Adjust angles, move, or do not take the shot.

  • Non-play environment.

    • This is not a play party. No active scenes. Keep it photography-focused and respectful of the space.

If there is ever a grey area: pause, ask, clarify, or grab a staff member. It is better to lose a shot than break trust.

Shadows & Shutters is here to nurture a community of creators who care about consent as much as they care about getting the shot. Bring your camera, your curiosity, and your weird, beautiful self, and we will handle the rest.
