Volunteer Code of Conduct (Remote Edition)
Core Principles
Be present.
Show up for the time you’ve committed and be reachable on the agreed channels (usually Discord) during your volunteer window.
Be polite.
Lead with respect, warmth, and curiosity. When supporting Deviance in a visible way (digitally or in person) you represent Deviance in DMs, comments, and posts.
Leave personal conflicts at the door. If something gets heated, pause, document, and escalate rather than argue.
Be punctual.
If you’re scheduled for a specific time frame or promised a deliverable, meet the deadline—or let the team know early if something changes.
Life happens; communication prevents gaps.
Be engaged.
Avoid cliques in digital spaces too. Welcome new voices in our online spaces, invite quieter folks in, and help members find resources quickly.
Use inclusive language and avoid inside jokes that make others feel “out of the loop.”
Be responsible.
Know the Club Rules and apply them consistently in online spaces. Model consent culture, safety, and kindness.
When moderating, act on behavior—not identity or popularity. Document actions briefly and neutrally.
Be accountable.
Own mistakes quickly, repair where possible, and loop in your lead.
Accessibility & Inclusion
Names & pronouns.
Use the names and pronouns people specify.
If unsure, ask in DM once; don’t quiz anyone publicly.
Trauma-aware.
No shaming, dog-piling, or tone-policing.
Redirect harm, don’t escalate it.
Financial sensitivity.
Recommend low-cost or free options by default; or scholarship options when relevant.
Privacy, Data Protection & Security
Member data is confidential.
Do not download, share, copy/paste, or export member info (names, emails, payment, ID docs, incident reports) outside approved tools.
Account separation.
Whenever possible, use staff/role accounts or least-privilege access. Never share passwords.
Screens & spaces.
If working in public, protect your screen.
Headphones for calls.
No member details on shared or family devices.
Consent, Safety & Online Boundaries
18+ only.
Never interact with minors in Deviance channels.
If you suspect a minor account, disengage immediately and escalate.
NSFW handling.
Follow channel rules and platform ToS.
No explicit content on personal channels tagged to Deviance without prior approval.
No doxxing, no outing.
Never reveal real names, faces, identities, disabilities, or personal circumstances without explicit consent.
Communication & Collaboration
Volunteer home base is Discord.
Personal accounts.
You’re free to have your own views, but don’t present personal opinions as Deviance’s position.
Conflicts of Interest
Don’t use volunteer access for personal gain. When in doubt, disclose and recuse.
Don’t promote competing venues or services on Deviance channels.
Time, Capacity & Care
Volunteer, not 24/7.
You’re not expected to be constantly available.
If you’re at capacity, say so.
We care about you as a whole human.
Sustainable pace.
Take breaks, log off, and practice digital boundaries.
Burnout helps no one.
Coverage.
If you can’t make a scheduled commitment or deadline, notify the team early so someone can pick it up.
Harassment, Discrimination & Harm
Deviance has zero tolerance for harassment, bigotry, or retaliation—online or in person—toward members or volunteers.
This includes slurs, sexual harassment, stalking, threats, or targeted hostility based on identity or circumstance.
Violations will result in removal of access and termination of the volunteer relationship - and potentially a total ban from Deviance membership.
